"Popeye!" Valerie yelled desperately as her great dane lumbered through Central Park. She's only loosened her grip on the leash for a second while she stopped to take a sip of eggnog latte and this was what she got. Her black leather flats pounded on the cement and she could see her breath coming out in short gasps. But Val's beloved dog kept running. Stupid dog. Probably just spotted a squirrel. Valerie stopped, disappointed, chest heaving, and lungs burning with the effort of running so far. "Fuck my life" She muttered, plopping down on a park bench.
There was so much tension at home; with her mother running around here and there, trying to decide what to get friends and relatives for Christmas, planning a fancy dinner party for the holidays. All she wanted was some fresh air. Popeye was now out of sight, and Valerie silently scolded herself for looking so retarded just a minute before. Got caught up in the moment, much? Still panting, Valerie reached into her back jeans pocket, yanking out her Blackberry. She dialed in some familiar numbers and pressed the cold phone to her ear. "Hello?" "Hi, Mom" "Oh hey, honey" Her mother sounded a bit frazzled and out of breath. "I just wanted to let you know I'm gonna be out for longer than I thought" "Okay, sweetie" Valerie paused as she heard the phone hang up on the other end. Sometimes her mother was so easy to work with; she had so much on her mind she didn't take in half the words Val said. But it was nice to get some permission to feel like Val was a better person than she actually was every now and then.
Regaining her energy, Valerie stood up and started walking, texting to her friend about her dilemna at the same time. If only Val was looking where she was going, then she wouldn't have crashed into someone. "Sorry!" Valerie said as she dived onto the pavement to retrieve her dropped phone.

Beep beep, beep beep. Rolling over the young women sighed with frustration. Scrunching her eye lids up she rubbed her eyes and the left side of her face. Stretching out her arm she struggled to find the button for her alarm and aimlessly slapped the top of her alarm clock. Beep beep beep beep. "God damn alarm." Sitting up she gently pushed her hair behind her ears and then turned the alarm off. The room was fairly dim, with a hint of light sneaking through a small gap between her pure black curtains. Pushing her sheets down to the end of the bed she gracefully stood up from the warmth and comfort of her bed. Pulling down her pajama top and walked over to the curtains and opened them. The roads were quite crowded and the traffic wasn't moving. She sighed and shook her head. Well, she was going to have to walk to Yale now.
Scratching her head she walked into her bathroom and looked in the mirror. Ugh. Opening her cabinet she took out her toothbrush and brushed her teeth quickly. It was a hard choice what to wear but she had to wear layers. The dirty blond put on a white vest top with a black and white jumper over the top, and then she put on some blue jeans. Grabbing her side bag she put her books in it and he laptop with a few pens and pencils. Well, this would be fun. She put on her long grey and pink coat and put her blackberry into her pocket. Leaving the house she felt it would be easier to cut through the park. Walking down the street she cut across the road.
It was then she saw a girl chasing after her dog, the girl failed. She thought she would help. She walked over to the dog and grabbed hold of its leash. Walking toward the girl she saw she was texting, but it was then she bumped into her. Making a gasping noise she held her stomach for a moment before cocking a eyebrow. "Ah, it's ok." She stated, "I think she or he, belongs to you?" She said with a smile, her strong English accent sticking out. Mimi handed the leash to the girl and smiled. "I'm Mimi."

Valerie looked up in surprise to see her dog. "Geez! I swear, if you keep running off, I'm gonna put you in the pound and buy myself a Pomeranian." Val sighed in exasperation, but she couldn't stay angry at her beloved Great Dane for much longer than a minute or two. She smiled despite her frustration, which was now slowly ebbing away. "Thank you so much!" Valerie said, fighting the urge to just hug this stranger who had kindly returned Popeye to her. Valerie reached forward and took back the leash, petting her Great Dane. "Um, I'm Valerie" She said, offering a hand for Mimi to shake.
Valerie glanced at Mimi's bag and raised an eyebrow. "I thought it was Christmas break now?" She asked, racking her brain and attempting to remember whether it was break or not. God, I feel like such a bad a student. Hm, whatever. She'd make up for it with some extra credit essay if she was wrong. And her parents were blissfully ignorant about almost everything Valerie did.
Valerie sighed, and instinctively tightened her grip on Popeye's leash as a squirrel scurried by. She thanked the heavens that he didn't run after it... An action that would have inevitably yanked her arm out of its socket due to her slow reflexes and holding onto the leash so tightly.
Valerie avoided eye contact. Small talk. Small talk... How come this was so easy for some people? After a few moments of helpless pondering, Val gave up and just straightened her posture, trying to look fully at ease like she usually did.

- - - - It was nice to see that someone adored their dog. In Mimi's eyes, some people only had a dog because they wanted one, and Mimi loved those people who had a dog because they needed one and they loved them like they were a person, not just a animal. Smiling she looked at the dog and smiled, it was a nice dog and normally she feared large dogs but she felt fine around this dog. Laughing lightly she looked at Valerie, "No problem." She said in a light tone before looking around the park for a while. Adjusting her bag on her shoulder she shook Valerie's hand and smiled, "It's a pleasure to meet you Valerie." She said in her British accent. Mimi had always been worried if she lost her accent, but it had stuck with her for a while and she visited her family back home often. Mimi petted the great dane and looked at the dane, "What's his, or her name?" She asked, intrigued by the dog.
Also glancing at her bag she smiled and nodded, "Well, it is Christmas break, but I'm doing extra studying." She replied, maybe it would make her look like a geek but she didn't really mind. Running a hand through her dirty blond hair she smiled and looked around the central park. It had people in it walking their dogs, and a few teenagers having snow ball fights. A small smile fell on her face as she looked at the people. words; 250. status; le fini. who's involved?; valerie alcon. muse; the fresh prince of bel-air. what she's wearing; ---- notes; crimbo in two days! credits; charley made this from ON THE L I S T !? so don't try and steal or remove credit. lyrics from the script; walk away.

"Pleasure to meet you too" Valerie said with a perfectly polished smile. "What's his, or her name?""Um, his name's Popeye" Valerie replied, blushing slightly in embarrassment. "I wasn't really fond of common names when I was twelve" She added with a shrug. "Well, it is Christmas break, but I'm doing extra studying." Valerie nodded in response. "Right. Um, where do you go?" she asked curiously.
Popeye pawed at the snow, obviously bored, sneezing adorably when a snowflake landed on his muzzle. When he looked up, he had a comical expression of disappointment on his face. "Can we go now?" He seemed to be pleading. "What's the matter, can't handle the cold?" She said gently. To her dog. Valerie gave a small sigh. She guessed her social reputation had just gone down by five points. Six actually; for half expecting a reply back. "Um, may our paths cross again." Valerie said without thinking. Ugh, I sound like a dork now. And I was just about to ask her if she wanted to get a coffee. Damn it.
"Thanks a million" Valerie added, eager to get back home quickly before Mimi realized how stupid Val sounded. So sometimes she was a bit hard on herself. So she was a bit (okay, a lot) self conscious with herself all the time. Whatever, at least she'd accomplished something that day; a new acquaintance. And it was good to know a lot of people in a city like NYC.

- - - - Cause I'll never let you leave, never let you breathe - - - - - - - - - Cause if you're looking for heaven, baby it sure as hell ain't me. - - - - The young girl knew her manors, at least one teenage knew how to treat people. At this point she felt stuck-up, thinking to herself how teenagers acted. Being herself, she had never been an average teenage. She grew up around money, dinner parties, gifts everyday, expensive holidays and designer everything. A small warm smile came from her perfect lips as gently wiped her bottom lip with her thumb. Mimi wasn't a huge fan of winter, although she must say seeing people enjoying themselves in the white blanket that covered the ground was amusing. The dirty blond nodded and smiled, "Ah well, nevertheless, Popeye is a very nice name." Many people didn't like popular names. Back in England Mimi knew many people who went by the name of Charlotte although it was a beautiful name. Pushing these thoughts to the back of her head she looked at the younger girl. "Not many people are fond of common names, I myself aren't a huge fan of common names, it causes confusion in my opinion, don't you think?" She rambled, using her hands to try and explain. She often did that when she talked, used her hands, it was just her way of talking.
The girl seemed nervous, and Mimi cocked an eyebrow. She didn't have anything to be afraid of, in her opinion she thought she was quite a friendly person, who would always create conversation. Even if she rambled on a little bit. "I go to Yale university." She said in a proud tone smiling at the girl, "What about you? Where do you study?" She spoke, wondering if she was at university or still in high school. Mimi chuckled lightly when Valerie began to talk to her dog. She found most people talked to their pets, although she couldn't figure out why. "Ah, I understand." She spoke in a light tone, "I don't want to keep you from your family?" She wasn't sure why the girl was leaving. Was she that scary? Well, she did need to study, but she was always up for a chat in the mornings with a stranger. words; 353. status; le fini. who's involved?; valerie alcon. muse; the sound of the television. what she's wearing; ---- notes; oh wowowowowo! christmas tomorrowwww. credits; charley made this from ON THE L I S T !? so don't try and steal or remove credit. lyrics from the script; walk away.
