ANOTHER DAY IN THIS LIVELY MADNESS OF S H O W I N G Y O U C A R EAlex was on one of the most expensive restaurants, sitting on a nice two table with a glass of wine in front of him. He was waiting for her to arrive; the girl that had changed his life in every sense possible. Adaire was a singer, now retired, he had met in a club long years ago, homeless and hopeless he had asked her for a lighter and they had got in conversation ending up with him showing her his work. For some unknown reason he was remembering the day he had seen her, all incredible, her red hair shinning and her face flawless, like an angel fallen from the sky. She had certainly been an angel from him; she was now his manager and assistant, helping him selling his work. Sometimes he was worried about her and how she felt, leaving everything she knew behind. But they got everything they had now because of both their hard works and he wasn’t regretting meeting her for one second.
The restaurant was packed of the finest people, all talking in whispers being the most polite. He had a sarcastic smile on his face, it was well know they all behaved as the most flawless people in the world and when the night fell they all went out to play, and most of the people who surrounded him right now were the biggest partier ever. Not that he went out much now that he had met with Adaire, she didn’t like it to go big parties and waste herself, and he had grow up quite a bit since he had met her, it had been mostly his bad habits what had brought him to the street. He was there meeting her for lunch and then back to work, as always, or maybe he would just drop the rest of the day to spend it with her, he will decided that along the meal. He was there because they were very well known for the best cheesecake dessert around New York and she totally loved it. People will think being as attractive as she was and as a womanizer as he was known to be, he will be having some kind of relationship with her, which was totally untrue. The only thing they shared (apart from the house to make things easier) was the work and that was about all.
He looked up to the windows, waiting for her to appear on the glass paneled wall. If she wasn’t such a lonely kind of girl maybe he would have tried to flirt with her but she was so especial and so important, he wouldn’t risk all they got because of his pants, which was what everyone around here tended to do. But he couldn’t deny they usually had a good time when they were around each other, and that didn’t happened much. He was on his space working on his books all the time and she was always fighting with the phone calling people to make his book a big hit, get his schedule of interviews right and everything she wanted to do. She worked like a lion and if she was as good as in the other aspects of her life… well, he just could imagine how of a good relation they will share. For now he usually had flings, and some occasional girlfriend who lasted over a month at the very least and he will swear she was jealous sometimes of the girls but he couldn’t really tell, she was very good hiding her feelings, except when she was annoyed, then she was very good letting everyone know she was mad. He smiled without even knowing it remembering all the fights they had along the years. SOME THINGS WE DON'T TALK ABOUT• rather do without and just hold a smile •FALLING IN AND OUT OF LOVELate. Of course, when she tried hard to be on time, did everything in her power to stick to her schedule, everything that could go wrong went completely wrong. But c'est la vie: that was life, especially for Adaire. As the taxi made a sharp turn, her fingers gripped the edge of the seat, eyes closing a moment as she recomposed herself. This is what she got for trying to cut herself a little slack. She had convinced herself during the ride that this was because she had decided to wake up at nine a.m. instead of her usual seven a.m. time. Everything had been perfectly planned almost a week in advance to ensure that exactly this situation would not occur... but here she was, eh?
"Not much further, sir..." she warned in a gentle tone, squelching her boiling anger. Not at the driver, but at herself. The day had started out nice. She got to make herself coffee, had the house to herself, since her boss was out, listened to some music... but then she had to make a call. And that call lasted an hour later than she had expected. Then errands popped up. And all hell broke loose. But her dinner that evening had been in the top priority part of her brain all day. It wasn't very often her boss suggested that they spend time together, and if he did, she didn't usually have the time to take him up on any offers. But she had cleared out her entire evening for him. Since he didn't schedule things like this often, she was almost paranoid into thinking he had something especially good or especially bad to say. News of some sort that required her to be pampered before getting hit with it. While the suspicions were there, a huge part of her hoped and wished this was just a down evening, a night to chat, catch up. Not that she'd complain... she wouldn't complain a bit.
The taxi stopped, and, adjusting her earring, Adaire slid out, grabbing her clutch in one hand and phone in the other, waving goodbye to the driver before walking briskly to the restaurant. Her hands were sweaty...a nervous sweaty. Giving herself a quick one over, she smoothed her hair back to make sure nothing was sticking up before allowing the young man at the door to open it for her with a polite smile. 'Ooh fancy...' she thought, looking around a moment before giving her name. A waiter was there to show her to her table in less than a minute. Feeling foolish, she smoothed her skirt, eyes scanning the room's population. Everyone looked so glamorous and pretty... especially the women. She was terribly jealous. It wasn't often that Adaire felt this sort of dressed up and nice. Sure, she always dressed to impress: it was part of the job. But getting all glamed up was rare, with their tight schedules. What was making her fidgety was the fact that she was meeting with her boss in a style she wasn't used to: a more cocktail getup. Hopefully he approved... she was nothing like the girls he brought home. 'Not that I care... I don't think of him in that way' she thought, forcing a smile to mask her weariness fromthe day's trials as she slid into a seat across from him. "Sorry for being late... you didn't order yet? I feel bad... by the way? You have an interview next Monday. And according to your fanblog, you're getting a shoot for being voted 'Best Dressed'... you can thank you're truly for that one." A small smirk crossed her lips. Sure, she was tooting her own horn, but she felt the right to brag about the best dressed thing. It was all because of her, because he was sort of clueless. Could she say it was all her, the reason why he was famous now? No. That was him and his wonderful talents... she just advertised and promoted them. She had all bragging rights on the clothes, though.

ANOTHER DAY IN THIS LIVELY MADNESS OF S H O W I N G Y O U C A R EHe had cleared the day so he would be able to spend some time with Adaire, they had been working too much lately he thought they both needed to catch up and rest. Of course, as paranoid as she was Alex was sure she would be thinking it was a work lunch, or bad news but he wouldn’t bring her to the most expensive restaurant around town just to talk about work. He was sure, too, that being as she was she would have planned everything from A to Z all the day, freaking about everything, he didn’t understand why she wouldn’t stop and take a break and left something unplanned but that wasn’t her character and he didn’t wish for her to change after all. A taxi stopped when he looked outside the window and she came down adjusting her clothes and trying to look great. The moment she stepped inside he knew she was feeling a little uncomfortable between all those high class people, sometimes she forgot she was one of them too. Though no one will know apart from him, she was walking toward him with confidence and a polite smile on her face not letting her insecurity slip. Once she sat in front of him she started to apologize and talk about work, he watched her until she was done and then he had to laugh.
Would you mind taking a breath? he laughed, she was so sweet and she had started to talk about work, something she felt comfortable about, but he had no intentions of doing that. And we will leave the work aside from one day, today is a no work day. He winked at her and summoned the waitress over their table. He asked for wine for him What will you want to drink? He asked her with a polite smile while the waitress was there and pick the menu so he would be ready to order. I think Sea scallops with rizzotto would be good for today. The Restaurant was French cuisine; he adored French cuisine now that he was able to eat it. When he was low class he couldn’t even afford a normal hamburger some days and now here he was, eating in the most expensive French cuisine restaurant in Manhattan with the loveliest lady around. She wouldn’t feel as if she was but he was sure she was, her amazing red hair was glittering in the light and she was dressed amazing stylish. That I have to give you, I’m the best dressed man because of your work.
If it wasn’t for her he wouldn’t be where he was now and he was happy to have her, he tried to make everything good for her so she would feel comfortable and loved and not like other worker of him. He fished his mobile from his pocket, switched it off and motioned for her to do the same, he wouldn’t leave any distracts or calls get on his way today. Alex knew she was going to fight against it but if wasn’t as if he care and before she started to say something about why she couldn’t switch her phone off he was going to give her hundred reason why she should do it. And before you say something: This is a no work day, I know you will tell me about important calls and everything but today, no phone, no work and nothing related to it, just the two of us as friends spending the day together and catching up so switch off your phone. He smiled that irresistible smile of his he knew she couldn’t resist. Sometimes it was so good being handsome; it had opened him a lot of doors in his work and the way to a lot of amazing girls’ dorms during his partying nights. Thought he tried not to bring girls home sometimes he couldn’t resist, when the girl was especially cute he would try to impress her and would take her for some wine and such. He knew she didn’t like it much but she never complained and he hadn’t told her to not bring guys home but for some reason she was always centered on her work and barely dated. So is everything going? And I don’t mean work. He took a sip from the last wine he was finishing waiting for the waitress to arrive with their new drinks and to ask them their order. SOME THINGS WE DON'T TALK ABOUT• rather do without and just hold a smile •FALLING IN AND OUT OF LOVEActually taking in a breath, Adaire laughed, releasing all the air she'd sucked in an actually felt a bit more comfortable right after. She always worked herself up about things... but thankfully, Alex was always there to calm her down. That was why they worked so well together. She helped organize him, and he helped her let loose a bit. Even this simple dinner date... no, outing, was 'letting loose' in a sense for her. Everything was work, work, constantly working to make Alex's life easier, Alex more organized, Alex better liked, Alex's career soar... she was his right arm 'And we don't even have sex' she thought, but was instantly embarrassed and ashamed of herself. Thoughts like that didn't usually come to her... she usually didn't let them. She was determined to make this a professional relationship... maybe a bit more personal, since they were good friends outside of work and lived together... for convenience, of course. As the personal assistant, most would think, due to cliches, that they would be sleeping together... not so. He had plenty of girls he brought home, mostly to impress them with the house... then Adaire would shoo them out the next morning so Alex could get back to work.
Just how things are... she thought, asking the waitress for a water. No wine for her... she needed to work tonight. He would probably get on her case for that, judging from his current attitude. He was in one of those modes where all he wanted to do was relax, and have everyone around him relax, meaning her. Which didn't work well, because she was so scheduled, and these times popped up at random. They rarely correlated, so she had to bump her plans until he was ready to dive back into the world of work and money again. "No work day... what a scandalous concept" she teased, smirking a bit as she put her napkin in her lap, smoothing it out. She gave a smile and a nod to the waitress, then looked to Alex, tilting her head a bit. "But... if you insist, I guess I can deal with it...." And that statement stood... until he motioned for her to turn off her phone. For a moment, Adaire almost looked scared, looking down at her phone that was still in her hand, as it always was. "But... what if one of the guys... call and need us to... do something I..." There was no winning this war. His speech confirmed it, so she nodded, turning it off and slipping it into the clutch, crossing her arms as she suddenly felt very bare and vulnerable without it. She couldn't hide behind her phone and busy work life here: she was exposed. If it wasn't for that damned smile...
Sometimes, it was nice having a good looking boss to talk to, interact with, look at girls that crowded with him like "Yeah. I work with that". Not that Adaire did it often, she wasn't a bragger. She just stuck to her work. Taking a deep breath, she quickly decided on a fettuccine alfredo and leaned back, shrugging a bit. "Well I'm... I've been busy ca-" Nope. Try again. "My er... mother called. She says hi..." she started again, frowning in thought as she tried to bring up events that didn't pretain to work. Sadly, there weren't many. "... Um... I've been looking forward to the holidays. One of your fans suggested a Christmas greeting, and starting a You Tube channel to greet your fans with so... oh damnit..." Pouting a bit, she tucked her hair behind her ear, then gave a surrender of a sigh. "That's really all. How have you been? she said quickly, bracing herself for talk of dinner parties and funny texts from woman he saw for a night and didn't plan on seeing again.

ANOTHER DAY IN THIS LIVELY MADNESS OF S H O W I N G Y O U C A R EHe knew Adaire wouldn’t be able to not think of work, not even for five minutes, that’s why he thought giving her a break was the best option. Making her relax, giving her a life outside work, she had done so much for him it was his way to give something to her, something that it wasn’t work. Of course he couldn’t blame her, she thought without her work she was lost, he just have to show her there was something more outside, a life to enjoy. They had enough money to not worry for a while and they both deserved it, he had been in his room, writing as crazy, for so long that he needed a break and she was so addicted to her mobile he was sure she even slept with it. She was so busy organizing his life she never worried about organizing her own or even getting one of her own; it was as if since she had started to work with him she had forgot everything about her own, that wasn’t what he wanted, and he had some idea.
If a day without work seems hard for you then what about holidays in… Paris? He suggested drinking from the wine. She asked for water, and he wasn’t surprised, not at all. He motioned for the waitress again to come. A glass of wine for her too. He smiled at her, she needed to relax and forget about work, and she had to enjoy life, or remember how it was having one. The wine here is amazing, and you will need it eventually. He set the menu aside once he had decided what he wanted and looked at her, all nervous with the phone on her hand. She, of course, had to say something about not switching her phone off but she finally did. He knew she would feel uncomfortable but he was going to give her reasons enough to forget about the damn phone. She tried to look for some topic but as he had thought she hadn’t any which wasn’t work related, which was sad coming to think of it and he suddenly felt the guilty creeping slowly over him.
Well, say hi back. And now… He was ready to tell her and give her something to complain and think about for the next lunch hour but he wasn’t to get a no for answer, there was no way. What do you think about Paris? He knew she was going to refuse as soon as the question left his mouth and that she would have ready a list of why they shouldn’t skip work for any period of time, of course all of them about the amount of work they had to do and all the calls to tell everyone they were gone and the appointments they had to cancel. Because I thought we well deserved holidays and I booked two tickets to Paris with date… He fished the tickets from his pocket to read the date Oh yes, today, leaving this afternoon after we had out lunch. And we will come back next Monday. He smiled. He had been doing a little work on his own, telling one of her workers to do Adaire suitcase, cancelling compromises himself and clearing the week ahead so they will enjoy their time off.
He wanted to give her some memory she will always save, something that will make her forget work and give her something to enjoy, remember how was her lost life and maybe that way she will want to get her dreams back to her. It was about time for her to enjoy her own life, to worry about her, to forget about schedules and focus on what she wanted and what she needed. So that’s basically all I did non-related from work. He smiled and waited for her reply, he loved to listen to her give her arguments even when she knew they were of no use, if there was something Alex knew it was that she never resisted him, all he said was sacred and immediately done and that was a gift he was giving her, his way to say her thank you for everything she had done on the past. She could give him one million reasons to not go to Paris, but he would smile and he knew she was going to say yes. SOME THINGS WE DON'T TALK ABOUT• rather do without and just hold a smile •FALLING IN AND OUT OF LOVEAdaire made a face when she was ordered wine, but pressed her lips together, refusing to protest. He had been kind enough to set this up. It would be rude to spend it arguing with him. While she was more comfortable working at her desk than sitting here in this fancy dress, she did want to respect his gratitude. A lot of bosses wouldn't really think to be so kind as to set up a relaxing dinner for their personal assistant. Why? It was her job. It was her job to devote her life to managing him, so why did she need to relax and take a break from it? She very well knew what she was doing when she started seriously managing him, and it had been her complete and full choice. So in her mind, to 'deserve' a break sounded a little funny, a little off, and a little selfish, if it came from her. She had to admit, though... she had been feeling a little weary lately, and never seemed to be able to get enough sleep. I should just sit back and enjoy this... she thought, realizing the tension she held in her shoulders for the first time, and relaxed them, leaning back on the chair a bit, while still holding a fairly proper position. She was still in a fancy restaurant. That hadn't changed.
"Need it..." she said, with a small laugh, and pushed her hair back to excuse her sudden giggle. Sometimes, Adaire felt like a little girl. Like her professionalism when dealing with bookstores and interviewers and photographers was all make believe, her pretending, and she was actually a giggly little girl on the inside. Which she didn't like to think: to manage someone like she did, she had to be all grown up. So the giggle was... deliriousness. She was convinced. But she really didn't laugh all that often, and if she did, it was short, and usually quickly covered up. Sort of like she had just done. "I'll let her know. She said she's rereading your book, and referring it to others... you can expect a Christmas gift from her..."
His 'and now' had her raising an eyebrow. That face... that tone. He had brought her here to tell her something. He had that scheming little look on his face, and she could practically see the wheels in his head turning. When he said 'Paris' she could have sworn she turned three shades paler. All she could think was 'Schedule, schedule, schedule!', and a million and one excuses popped into her head so fast she had to press her lips together to keep them from slipping out. Sitting back, she put a hand over her mouth to help prevent an outpouring of disagreements, and just listened, closing her eyes when he said they were leaving right after dinner. How could he, was her first thought. How could he? He knew better than to do something like this to her. Her plans, her schedule... she would have to cancel things, rearrange things... everything couldn't just go on stand still. They might go on a vacation, but the rest of the world would be looking for their bestseller Alex Reed for a talk show guest or magazine cover person. The fact that it was just the two of them nagged at the back of her mind too, but she pushed that away. It seemed to make her a little more willing to say yes, she found... and that scared her. She couldn't think things like that. She refused. "...Um..." she started, then took a deep breah, shaking her head. That look... there was no saying no to this. "But that... and we can't just... this is... I don't think... with everything going... Damn you Alex I... I mean I..." Nothing. No protest. She might as well wave the white flag, because she lost this round. "...You..." she said, finally, turning her eyes to him as she shook her head, "You sneaky little... bastard. All right. Fine. Paris. We're... we're going to Paris..." Hearing the words from her own mouth made her want to be sick. Almost. But butterflies of excitement were starting to fill in, since she had given in. She hadn't been to Paris before. This would be nice, and good for her. "I swear you're going to be the death of me. I'm just going to keel over at some... book convention or something..." She shook her head with a small laugh, finding herself smiling as she looked up at him again. Alex... he was unbelievable. And she meant it in the best of ways. Still, she had her doubts. "I'll have to cancel that meeting... or postpone it. And I'll probably be behind Monday... you know that answering machine will be full when we get back... Alex?" Adaire suddenly frowned, smoothing out her skirt before leaning back, placing her hands neatly in her lap. "...Why this? Why now? Why... Paris? Is there some... girl there you want to see or something?"

ANOTHER DAY IN THIS LIVELY MADNESS OF S H O W I N G Y O U C A R EAdaire relaxed in front of him, he had that effect on her and he liked it, the fact that he was able to give her something apart from work and that is was something as valuable as being able to relax made him happy. Of course she didn’t know what she needed until he gave it to her, thinking she was most comfortable between papers he thought the only thing she did was hiding behind them because she was afraid to pursue her dream and it was easier to help other in the shadows. He wasn’t going to let her in the shadows. Once he had got what he wanted he was able to give her what she wanted. I can only hope it’s not another tie. Sometimes he thought her heard the jealousy in her voice when referring to other girls but it could be only him, in all that time she had never showed any special interest in him, apart from making of his career one of the most successful around. It was no secret he liked girls and she was spectacular but maybe it was because he saw her as something more that a girl to spend the night with why he had stopped himself from doing something more.
Alex had to laugh; he had to when her face paled at the mention of Paris. Of course, same instant that word left his mouth she started to reply why it was the worst idea, but it wasn’t as if he hadn’t planned it perfectly well. He even could see her thoughts, the one she wasn’t saying out loud, all the calls she had to make, all the appointments she had to cancel, but he was a step ahead from her. I know what you are thinking and I know why you are saying that. He smiled, sipping from his wine and watching her with a smirk on his face. And I’m going a step ahead from you; I cancelled myself everything and planned everything from A to Z so you can relax without worrying. He had been waiting to say that all night, because he wanted to see her face when he said he had done all the work ahead, from once in his life he wasn’t doing things without thinking and that was thanks to her. He smiled when she agreed; she didn’t a way out anyway so he knew it was a won battle before even starting it. I knew you would agree, anyway I hadn’t give you a chance to say no. It wasn’t as if he didn’t value her opinion, in fact for him everything she said he should do was sacred and was immediately done, but if he didn’t do that kind of things more often she wouldn’t do them herself. He handed the waitress the menu and told her what he wanted and motioned to the waitress to ask Adaire for her command.
He knew she was still processing the fact of going to Paris so soon and she hadn’t even freaked out about the fact that she had to pack to leave; he was excited to tell her that one too. He thought maybe it was too romantic what he was doing and maybe it was but he knew he wanted to go there with her and he wasn’t going to back off now. I know I’m going to be but if it wasn’t for my spontaneity you wouldn’t be thinking of going to Paris right now. He had never been to Paris either and now he had the money to enjoy traveling and enjoy the place he was, because when he had been somewhere was because of the work, he was going to travel as much as he was able and he couldn’t find a better person to enjoy it than her. Plus, Paris was the capital of the romantic art, the music, the paints… she would enjoy it there and maybe she will find in her soul again the love for the music she had set aside for him. He was convinced she had been waiting for someone to rescue her from where she was because she couldn’t bring herself to pursuit her own dream, maybe she was too afraid of getting too high and then falling, but he couldn’t find a logical thought of why someone who loved music as much as she did would devote her life to someone which music taste was rather plain and normal and that couldn’t sing to save his life. He had studied the guide of Paris for places she would love to see.
But she had thought something he hadn’t planned she will, and he didn’t know why he was surprised because of it. Fortunately for him, he had his answer ready. They were living together, spent all their lives together and shared every detail of their lives. Yes, he loved girls and he loved to spend the night with them and have an occasional lasting relation but what she had with her was different, she was the only girl in his life, the one who had been there for him every single moment of his life and the one who had seen him when no one did. All girls loved him now because he was rich, famous and popular, because he had an amazing house and they all hope they would love for him to help them to reach the fame and the good life. He couldn’t trust anyone, everyone wanted something from him. The gifts, the money, the fame, whatever it was it wasn’t because of his personality, but the material things. But he was sure Adaire wasn’t with him for all of that but because she cared for him, he wouldn’t share this with anyone else but her, and he knew she will appreciate it.Yes. There is a girl. He said smiling and sipping from his wine, watching her with a half sexy smile It’s you. I wouldn’t share this with any other girl but you. It was like the typical sentence of a movie but still he meant all that he had said. SOME THINGS WE DON'T TALK ABOUT• rather do without and just hold a smile •FALLING IN AND OUT OF LOVEWhen the waitress came over, Adaire ordered her fettucini alfredo and accepted her wine with a smile and a polite 'Thank you', to which the waitress nodded. She gave Alex a smile that was half "you're an ass for this" and half "thank you for all this" before taking a sip. He was right. She would need a glass of wine. Setting it down, she glanced around her setting again, at the men and women seated at tables. She even found herself labeling the occasion of each. Three men in dark suits speaking with serious looks on their faces: business dinner. Two women in nice dresses, two men in nice suits, one man looking nervous: blind/double date. Another, a married couple, possibly an anniversary. One beside them, a couple in black, laughing, perhaps long lost friends meeting up for the first time in years. So many different stories and scanarios around her... What's ours? she thought, glancing a moment at Alex before taking another sip of her wine. Something... weird. Like business/friendly/surprise/good news/bad news dinner. Or something. Adaire barely knew how to classify their relationship. They were more than simple business partners... they were friends. Really close friends. They could read each other like books, Alex better than she because she got so wrapped up in work or whatever she was doing... but if something bothered him, she could see it no matter how big of a smile he gave her, and if she saw that despite enthusiastically signing autographs, he was more than ready to get away from the crowd... all things she arranged and helped with. But she had to know those things. When all else failed, though, Alex didn't go to anyone but her. And that meant a lot to her. He trusted her... and she trusted him. Though she wasn't much for sharing when it came to feelings.
Her eyebrows raised, a smug grin invading her face as she lowered the glass, leaning back. "You... you planned? I'm impressed... if not a little scared" she teased, taking another sip before setting the glass down and sitting up straight, tucking her hair behind her ear again. "I know you wouldn't... which is really, really unfair, you big meanie... I feel like I'm about to skip school or something..." Not that she never skipped school. Adaire would often skip school, especially in college. She would get about halfway to class, stop, and turn on her heel in the opposite direction, heading to the stage or the choral rehearsal rooms. Her heart wasn't in business administration... it was in music. In song. And for hours, she would disappear, lost singing song after song until her voice got raspy. Thinking back on those days made her smile a bit... only a bit, because pain came a bit after that. When was the last time she had really sang, out loud, completely, not just humming under her breath while she worked? She didn't even know... she really didn't even know... "I still can't believe we're going to Paris..." she said, almost dreamily as she looked out the window. Paris, city of love... oh dear god, love. She almost wanted to roll her eyes. And puke. At least there was art there. "Visiting the Louvre will be so much fun... and I can brush up on my French a bit. I took in in high school... you know? I remember fromage best of all things... it means cheese. I love all the cheeses, all the food, the wine..." Shaking her head, Adaire took another sip before her mind got too far gone. They hadn't even left the restaurant yet. Edit Piaf kept playing in her head... infamous French singer, timeless as Audrey Hepburn in her opinion. The music meant now what it did back when she was alive... beautiful music, music she had, on more than one occasion, sang... maybe she'd sing it again... or at least hear it. Who knew, maybe she couldn't sing anymore...
Adaire could tell, by the way he looked at her, that he had heard the tone in her voice. That subtle hint of jealousy... jealousy, she convinced herself, because Alex could so easily get women and she wasn't all that great at getting men. That was why she was jealous of him... not that she wanted to be one of those women. Not that it would be a completely bad thing... they were pretty. And he was attractive, and no one would protest too much to sleeping with Alex Reed, that was for sure. But those women... she never heard their name again after a few weeks. And there would be another name. And soon, that would be forgotten too. Not that she cared. That was his personal, romantic life... and she was in no way part of that. That was one part of him she didn't manage, or control... and she was fine with that. She was just fine with that... That smile, though, and the comment sent butterflies fluttering all over her stomach, even though she pounded "business partners, business partners" into her head to balance the shock. It sounded like a freaking movie... it probably had been a freaking movie. And Adaire wasn't into cliche things but... when he said it? It made her feel funny. Clearing her throat, she gave a very controlled, polite and somewhat shy smile, nodding a bit. "Oh I see. Well... yep, seems I'll be there..." Her confidence and professionalism was slipping. Her act was fading, and the constant facade of 'I'm just fine' was slipping, as it tended to do much easier around him. He forced her to relax... and that meant her guard often times went down. Taking a rather large sip that had her coughing a bit, she added, "And I'm sure you've planned lots of fun for us. Fun little... touristy relaxing sort of time. It'll be fun... real fun... lots of fun..." Babbling! "Of course it would! What better between good friends?" Wow, good one. Dumb ass... "What I mean is..." Adaire paused, taking a moment to collect her thoughts, and smiled, genuinely. "I really appreciate you doing this for me. I really, really do. I might babble but... it means the world. So... thank you, Alex. I don't know what I'd do without you." And she meant it. Without him, she would be a mess. A nervous breakdown of a mess, no relaxation. While she had stopped singing for him, she never once regretted it. Alex was a big deal now... she took pride in that. She found happiness in that. And he was wonderful... he really was. ANOTHER DAY IN THIS LIVELY MADNESS OF S H O W I N G Y O U C A R EWhen someone looked at them they always thought the same, typical boss assistant relationship. That kind of make him mad because everyone thought she had what she had because of him and it was the other way around. He had a lot to thank to her, everything she had done for him, he had so much to thank for and so much things to makeup to her… He went from hell to heaven and now it was time of giving her all she wanted even when she didn’t know she wanted it. What can I say? I can plan, it hadn’t been as hard as I thought. He laughed, truth was it had been a living hell, people had given him the time, saying he can’t do this and that and convincing everyone to get to his plans even if they didn’t want to. But I won’t do it again, I don’t know how can you do that every day. It had been worth it though and now that he had tried it himself he could understand how hard her work was, if people thought it was only calling they didn’t know how that work was about. It was good if she was feeling like she was skipping school because that meant she was feeling young and intrepid.
You are not skipping school, your boss it’s taking you. He laughed, she was so sweet, he didn’t know how she can be single, though he liked it that way, didn’t know why. Think it’s like a work trip but without work, just… the trip. They had travel other times, but they had been always confined in their hotel rooms too busy getting ready for whatever sing he had or something like that. It was the first time they were traveling for pleasure; since they had met everything had been work and work and work non-stop. I think Paris is a good place to spend sometimes, it has a lot of things to seen and it’s very romantic. He didn’t want it, of course, he didn’t know why but he wanted her like she was right now, maybe he was being selfish but still he had the impression if she got a boyfriend everything would change between them. I can’t speak French for my life but well, maybe it’s time to start learning a little and the best place is Paris. With all that he wanted for her to revive her old dreams, to worry about herself, to give a rest to her mind thinking about him for once. He had been so self-absorbed with his things he hadn’t even stop to think about her or at least not in the way he should had. Now that he was looking at her face he knew he hadn’t imagine the tone in her voice, maybe she didn’t like the fact that he had so many women or maybe it was that he brought them home but what she said about a woman in Paris… well, it wasn’t what he had expected.
He was lucky he had some quick answer ready, that he was a quick thinker but it had left him out of the game. Of course, he should had been angry of her getting into his personal life but still the only thing he felt was… butterflies, because she was so into him she was even worried about him getting hurt. Maybe it was only him, and that was the only thing that had stopped him of making his move, because whatever happened she was so important he didn’t want to lost her, and much less because something like that. He was afraid to put into danger everything they had because of crossing some line because for him she was the most important thing in his life. Yes, you would there without doubt and you will have the time of your life, I’m sure you won’t regret this. Since she hadn’t asked, she was going to give her the big surprise. And we are going to the airport from here, your suitcase is ready, the car is ready… everything is ready. Paris couldn’t wait and he was afraid she would change her mind if he gave her some time, or worst that he would change his mind. He was spontaneous and adventurous and loved to do things without thinking but that hadn’t go exactly as he had expected it in the past and now he had to think and this had been one of this decisions he hadn’t think, he had felt like going and he had bought the tickets.
Alex laughed, she was babbling, she was nervous and of course she was scared. Stop babbling, we are just going to Paris, it’s no big deal. She was so sweet when she blushed and babbled like that, he tried to make her relax and be comfortable and sometimes he had to push her out of her comfort zone, like she did in the past. He loved it when she sang while she was working, she didn’t even noticed it but he loved the sound of her voice, bring back the time they met, a day he wouldn’t forget. He wanted to give her that again. He wanted to give her a new chance, a new life, something she would love to do again. You will love it, the hotel and the places. I have everything ready to make you forget about work even if it’s only for a little while. He had planned on taking her to a place where she could sing again, he was sure she missed it because she spent her life singing all the time or humming under her breath, it was the sound of his life, one of the things he most loved of her and he enjoyed it, sometimes he found himself listening to her while he was working and smiling. He had to give her the chance to make her talent know. SOME THINGS WE DON'T TALK ABOUT• rather do without and just hold a smile •FALLING IN AND OUT OF LOVEAdaire smiled and laughed to herself as he laughed. It was interesting how happy this made him... not that she minded. It was good to see him laughing and smiling, not that he didn't do it enough. Sometimes, though, when schedules got hectic and the workload got heavier, he was guilty of getting in over his head as well: not that he could help it. And during those times, he looked serious, and focused... but for her? He always seemed to manage a smile, which she appreciated. Those smiles reminded her why she was still there, why she had ended up there in the first place. Her life, quite simply, was to make his happy. So seeing him this happy meant she was doing her job... even if she felt like she was about to skip class or something. "I don't blame you for not wanting to do it every day" she said, raising the glass to her lips to find there was only a sip left. Setting it aside, she sat back with her legs crossed, listening to him as he spoke. All that enthusiasm... while the many girls over the few years she'd known him bothered her a bit, she had to admit that she very well knew the reason. He had this... charisma and charm about him. Not that he wasn't attractive already... though even as a bum on the streets, she had found something attractive about him. Something about him moved her to want to get to know him. But that charisma carried on in his writing, and once the public got a taste of Alex Reed... they loved him. Just as she had expected them to.
"A work trip..." she repeated slowly, nodding a bit as she let the thought settle. Leave it to Alex to know exactly what to say to ease her nerves. Now, going to Paris didn't seem so scandalous to her, for which she was thankful. She didn't want to spend the entire time worrying, though knowing herself, she would anyways. It was in her nature to worry... she would probably try to sneak a little work in there at some point, too. Unless his schedule didn't allow it. To that thought, she had to smile to herself. His schedule... the thought of him scheduling still amused her. But, she did not doubt that he could do it. She would just have to see what was in store for her, wouldn't she? Romantic... her mind repeated, turning her thought process in a direction that had her immediately sitting up straight, trying to turn it right back around. No, she would not be like those cheesy novels that her mom used to read (before Adaire got her hooked on Alex Reed, that was) and have an explicit getaway with her hot boss. Besides, the girls in those books had like... porn star names. Though, the thought wasn't completely foreign to her. To say she hadn't thought of hooking up with Alex was, of course, a lie. Just look at the guy and one would think it. But she didn't want to... no, she had convinced herself that she didn't want that. It was all because he was good looking... and yes, he was charming and charismatic, and had that wonderful smile and always seemed to know exactly what to say to make her feel better, and he could just look at her and tell she was upset or tired, no matter how hard she tried or succeeded at hiding it... he just knew. That thought paralyzed her. Without even trying, all those thoughts had come effortlessly, and they made her feel like she was in middle school again: butterflies. When was the last time I felt... butterflies... Did she possibly...?
Slightly freaked out by herself, Adaire cleared her throat and snapped back into the conversation, tucking her hair behind her ear in that nervous habit she always did when she thought things she wasn't supposed to. Hearing that her suitcase was packed was a wonderful distraction, and she gave a fond smile, shaking her head. "Alex, really, you are too much... did you call in a private jet with a chef, too? My goodness... I don't know what I'm going to do with you" Hesitating a moment, she reached her arm across the table and touched his hand, hoping it wasn't too much. "I need this... thank you for seeing that... I'm so excited I can barely eat anymore" she said with a light laugh, "But... I guess I should relax... it's about time I did. And you seem to have everything under control. You even packed for me... I hope you picked something cute." She was teasing, of course. But for some reason, she trusted Alex's judgment clothing wise. ANOTHER DAY IN THIS LIVELY MADNESS OF S H O W I N G Y O U C A R EAlex was just feeling like a child about go on a trip with the school. He couldn’t help it, doing something he liked and doing it in such hurry excited him and made him happy and even more if he was doing it with such a beautiful lady. He couldn’t forget that this trip was to make her happy and to make her remember her dream, it was to make something good for her, now that his life was perfect he wanted to help make it perfect for the girl who had been by his side when no one did. I can’t believe how you can love to be on the phone all day talking to utterly idiots. Maybe it was only him but the ones who had taking his phones calls and helped him plan the trip had been totally stupid and he had ended losing his temper on more than once and he wasn’t going of getting angry easily. When he had finally tied everything and made everything work out the way he wanted he made a mentally note on giving Adaire more holidays. What he loved about her was that nothing would bring her down, she was happy and she was always singing, that always made his day and he knew her mood by listening to the song she was singing that day. That way he can always try to cheer her up when she was feeling sad or give her a break when she was feeling low which was that often. He could even know when she was feeling melancholic for the life she had left behind.
Sometimes he felt like a total egoistic only thinking about his life and making her think about his life too, that was the chance to fix everything and makeup for the past months. He knew she wasn’t feeling as if he had stolen her life from her but he couldn’t help but feel guilty when he saw her with paper works from side to side singing songs. Or a school trip, I got ticket for the Moulin Rouge spectacle. It was the most famous spectacle in Paris and he was sure that would bring her dream back, maybe it wasn’t very glamorous but she was sure going to love it and he got tickets for the theater too but that was going to be a surprise. She was sure going to enjoy that trip; he had everything ready for her to get her creativity back and her passion for singing. He was a little scared, though, of her deciding to leave him for good to pursue her dream, but after all the plan was making her happy and if that was going to make her happy then he wouldn’t make her stay with him. You will see the Eiffel tower from the windows of the hotel. He had set everything in a very romantic way and it wasn’t because he was trying to make a move on her but because he appreciate her a lot and wanted to give her life those special moments who make you happy for the rest of your life.
Maybe Alex had thought about very romantic, not to mention very hot, nights with the Eiffel Tower as background in the best suite with music and good wine, of course did but still he always forced himself to think it was so cliché, she would think he was trying to get advantage of her and he couldn’t allow that. Their food arrived and Alex started to eat watching Adaire think, he knew she was thinking about something that bothered her and suddenly fear clenched to his stomach, maybe he should have tell her before doing this all of sudden? Maybe it hadn’t been such a good idea after all… maybe she didn’t like it at all and was looking at that trip as an obligation because he was her boss instead of a holidays trip… Of course, if you have doubts… if you don’t feel comfortable enough with the idea I can just…. His voice trembled and was impregnate by sadness and fear. He could just hope she will tell him she loved the idea but maybe he had been such an ass he hadn’t noticed about her feelings. But he relaxed a little when she joked about him having a jet ready, that wasn’t the case, he could have done it but he wanted to make the trip as unnoticeable as possible so they both will enjoy it.
He laughed and his laugh became a sweet smile when she touched his hand with hers. She was such an amazing girl, he just wanted to make everything perfect for her. I would have do it but I don’t want to bring too much attention on us.. He had to worry about people knowing where they were because they will follow them and try to get pictures of him and such, of course he was known worldwide and someone will recognize him and tell the press but no if he could do something to prevent it. I didn’t pack it myself of course, though I did choose some of your clothes I have someone do it. She better than no one else should know his taste was not as good as hers and that he wouldn’t be the best dressed man if it wasn’t because she always told him what to wear on every event they had. I have everything under control of course. He said taking another bit of his dish. I know you would have probably made a mentally list of what to do if I haven’t so I have to clear it so you will enjoy this without work.. SOME THINGS WE DON'T TALK ABOUT• rather do without and just hold a smile •FALLING IN AND OUT OF LOVEHow Adaire did her job some days, she didn't know. She would be on the phone, sometimes for hours on end talking to people who didn't listen or half listened, or were unable to comprehend what they were listening too. Then there were a million holds and dozens of miscommunications. On more than one occasion, she had to fight. On many, many occasions she had to fight for justice, so that for Alex, things seemed to run smoothly. She couldn't count how many times they had almost run into walls in their plans due to situations beyond their control, and Adaire had to rush to fix it before it reached her boss so that he would never know there was a problem. It was the trick of the game, the meaning of her job: lighten the stress on the boss. Did it put stress on her? Yes. But if it didn't, she wasn't doing her job right. Her entire meaning was handling stress. It was going to be weird, she couldn't help but keep thinking, to not do that.
Picking up her fork, she ate quietly for a bit as he talked about what all they'd be doing and seeing. Really, she was up for just about anything, as long as they were in Paris. She could just go to Paris and stand in one place and be perfectly happy. Travel was something she had wanted to do since she was a little girl... travel and sing. But things changed, didn't they? Still, this trip was almost a 'dream come true' thing in her mind. No... it was a dream come true. Not long after she took in the responsibility of managing Alex, she had to sit down and tell herself that she couldn't keep dreaming silly things like travel and singing all day for a career. She had to be realistic, and the reality of her situation, in her mind, was that the world needed to know Alex Reed, because Alex Reed was a voice to be listened to, and his words read to hear that voice.
Seeing his mood change had Adaire at attention. She let her fork drop to her plate, giving a concerned look as she shook her head. Her and her doubts... now she had caused him grief. Why can't you just be normal and shut up about it? she thought to herself, feeling guilt eat at her stomach. Tilting her head a bit, she said, "Look... its fine. Really, it is. I don't mind the trip, like I said its... its perfect. Wonderful, its... its really, really good for me. For both of us! We need this... a nice break from the world, eh?" She gave him a genuine, encouraging smile, and went back to her food. Hopefully, that eased any fears he had. And she herself felt pretty content. Her mind was racing with ideas and possibilities, most of which she would be sure to keep to herself. No way her imaginative mind was getting out. It was dangerous...
"Know what?" she said, taking a bite and washing it down with some wine before sitting back, "I won't even take my phone. I'll... I'll get a pay phone, and the only one that will have that number is you, in case we get separated. So that I won't get or make any other calls. And we'll certianly stay under the radar... I don't want an autograph signing every ten minutes. Even France knows you..." To that thought, she had to smile to herself. Since his first book went international, everyone around the world knew about Alex Reed. Funny... funny when not even the guy on the street would give him the time of day, everyone wanted his attention. Lots of girls get his attention... she thought, and mentally beat herself for that thought. None of that... though she did have her fears. French girls? Wouldn't that be tempting to any guy? While she did enjoy the thought of this trip, she didn't really want it turning into her following him and some pretty French girl he met all over Paris. It could happen... lots of girls he talked to were much prettier than her. "I'm all excited" she said, with a smile, "I can barely eat I am... what'll we do first, once we get there?" ANOTHER DAY IN THIS LIVELY MADNESS OF S H O W I N G Y O U C A R EHe knew he had done a good job when she answered his doubts as fast as lighting. Alex couldn’t help but wonder how he had got so lucky. It was true destiny worked at random, he had met the girl of his life in a bar one night, all poor and homeless. He didn’t even know at that moment things were going to change and if he ever had the thought he would have laughed it off, his situation was very complicated at the moment and he could only be grateful to the miracle she worked with him. How she did all of that without getting crazy, he didn’t know, but he had to treat her like gold because she just deserved it. This is my way to say thank you… I never said that before and you really deserve it. He regretted most of the choices he had taken in life but if he got the chance to turn things back he won’t because all of that brought her to him. Had he been rich she would have never set her eyes on him, which seemed a strange though considering most of the girls now set their eyes on him because of the money but she was just that special. If it wasn’t for you… I have no idea of how hard must have been for you… getting me up here when everything was so hopeless.
And not to mention setting aside her dreams just to make his come true. That was something he never understood, why she decided to put everything aside for him, if it had been the other way around, him helping her… well, his dreams were is dreams and in the past he would have done everything to get them regardless of who he had to hurt to get them or use. Now things were different, meeting her had taught him there was something more important than money and fame and it was people, and helping them felt better than helping himself. He was doing that just now and it felt amazing watching her get all excited about going to Paris, and she didn’t even know half of his plan. She was going to work… just not for him, he had concerted an interview with the best discography around and they were going to listen to her sing and make her an offer he was sure she wouldn’t be able to refuse. And he was getting her to a karaoke bar to make her get back the passion of singing. His entire plan revolved around her and her dream and it felt just great to know he was doing something good for the first time in his life. I really hope you like the clothes she picked for you. He said, not trusting himself enough to get his mouth shut and changing the topic. But we are going shopping too so if you don’t like them you can always get a new wardrobe there. He really didn’t like shopping, he was a boy, but if he had endure hours of shopping with girls he barely knew or stand sometimes, then he could take her out for shopping.
I’m not going to ditch you for signing autographs and besides, I doubt people will recognize me. He said laughing and getting back to eat. It was so strange sometimes to walk down the street and watch a picture of himself in the cover of a book or his name on them, but it was even strangest when people stopped him to get an autograph and a picture with him. He didn’t feel any special or important for that matter, he felt as always just with more acquisitive power but apart from that all he did was writing books. In the past he thought he would felt different surrounded by money, pretty girls and fame but the only difference he noticed was that girls wanted him for his money and they stayed shorter in his life than in the past, he couldn’t barely remember the name of the girls he had longest relationship, much less the names of the girls he had slept with. Most of them were with him for the money and others for the fame, but all had in common that they didn’t want him to stay around for much time and he didn’t either. We are visiting the Eiffel Tower first, then we will take a tour by car and we will stop at Notre Dame and then we will see the Louvre. There were a lot of places to visit in Paris and a lot of things to do and he wasn’t sure they will have time to do everything but there were places he had to take her.
You don’t worry I have everything under control. t the idea of the mobile he had to laugh, it was a good idea really, that way they will be disconnected from the world for real and no one will be able to reach them, no work, no annoying calls, nothing at all. I like the idea. I’ll get one too, that way we both will be really disconnecting. They really need to get a break from work and deserved it, no one could say otherwise and Adaire was such a workaholic he was sure she slept with her blackberry in case someone made an important call or she had to fix something she had forgot. And no girls for him during this break, only her, he wanted this girl to be the only one during this travel, it was their travel, no one else, and it was for her, all planned for her and around her and thinking of what she liked and disliked, she needed to get herself back and then she could get back to him if she wanted but he had to try to give her the same she had given him, a life and a chance to make his dreams come true, he couldn’t have asked for more, he was sure she was wishing for her chance too.
