She wasn’t sure how many people were coming to spend Christmas with them this year but she could say she had enough money for all of them. She was happy at Ricky’s but since she had started she had barely time for her, spending all of it studying and practicing. With her hands full of bags with all the shopping it was difficult for her to talk at the same time without dropping everything in the floor so she stopped and left the bags on the floor while talking. Switching her phone off she wrapped her better in her American eagle cable knit wrap cardigan and noticed she was in front of the Aquarium. It had been a while since she had been there, as a child, James and Martha had took her there to see the fishes and the spectacles.
Jessica smiled at the memory and decided she could use some time to just enjoy life and that’s what she did, leaving the bags on a locker and bought a ticket. As a kid Jessica loved to watch the animals and used to tell Martha to buy one for her to keep at home, those had been good times, she didn’t know she was adopted and she didn’t want to, she had been able to be happy without worrying about people loving or not loving her or the reasons they do this or that. Her first stop was the flower hat jelly, she loved them, with all those colors and eerie atmosphere they gave to the place so it will look they were underwater. Watching them she remembered the love she had for the sea, especially for the jelly ones because for some reasons they fascinated her, when dance and music had get into her life the rest of the thing had been moved to a second place. Jessica smiled, her eyes turning all watery as she remembered who excited she was when she watched them there, moving smoothly around the water with those amazing colors.
She told James she wanted to be just like them, as majestic and elegant, and she told Martha she wanted her room to be decorated with the colors of the rainbow ones… Martha and James had gently laughed and left her all the time she wanted, she could spend hours just sitting there watching them swim. With the time at least she had make one of her wishes true, the one of being as elegant as them, she tried to emulate those smooth moves in her dances thought her style was much more aggressive and had nothing to do with the calming way they swam around. She sighed, so much memories… and so much things had changed since the last time she had come with her parents here, because as she grew up she had less and less time to spend in the aquarium and spent more time on her practices and school, and she didn’t regret it, but it was sad remembering those childhood days he missed so much. She was so absorbed on the laughs of her memory someone could have been talking to her or beside her and she wouldn’t have notice, and that was exactly the case, someone had stopped beside her to watch them.

and in the spring, i shed my skin Even Broadway stars have to take the day off, don't they?
Lucinda Sang was one of those girls who liked to do things when she wanted to do them, not when she needed to do them. You can imagine, then, the problem that came up when her agent wanted her to go to an important meeting with her producer, but she didn't really feel like sitting in an office and looking pretty while her agent did some negotiating and whatnot. Or, for example, when her mother wanted her to do homework; she was a student at Constance Billard's School for Girls, and she needed to keep her grades up if she wanted to be allowed to keep performing on Broadway.
It used to be that during the Summer and Fall, she would go on tour; but now that Winter time was here, her mother had brought her back to her beloved New York, to continue with her studies and be home for a while. To be honest, Lucinda didn't mind all that much; she loved New York, and she had missed her family. Even Akihiko and Pol (though she would never admit it). The point was that even though she hated going back to school, and would much rather be on stage, singing her heart out just as she'd always done, she was willing to suffer through it to be with her family and friends again.
So really, she was selfless and saintly. Or something to that effect, anyway.
While her agent had been adamant about her coming, Luce had snuck away while he was looking through some newspapers; and now that she was in trouble, she might as well just hang out wherever anyway. There was no point in turning herself in now that she'd already committed the crime! And so the teen star made her way down the street and instead into the aquarium, where she was pretty sure her agent wouldn't be looking for her. After all, the aquarium was not a place she frequented; more likely she would have gone to a coffee shop, or straight to Broadway itself.
She was pretty keen on skipping out of this meeting.
Lucinda made her way through the aquarium slowly, easing her way among the crowds, and then finally stopped in front of a tank full of jelly fish. A slight noise of wonder came from her; it had been ages since she'd been to the aquarium, let alone see jelly fish! "I haven't been here in forever," she said aloud. "I forgot how strange these things are!" She grinned, looking quite amused with herself, and failed to notice that there was someone beside her.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - SO WHY DON'T YOU LAY RIGHT HERE LET ME JUST EASE YOUR MIND I'M GIVING YOU ALL MY TIME ! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -She jumped out of her skin when someone talked to her. She had been there staring at the Jellies like an idiot for hours, as if staring at them would make the clock turn back and she will be suddenly that girl with the long plaits and her pink sparkly little bag. She turned her head and saw her and her eyes grew wider as she realized who the girl was, Broadway star Lucinda Sang. She had saw some of her spectacles in Broadway, James loved to take her to them so she would improve her movements and such. Jessica’s luck was changing lately, first she had met Mrs. Zegna, then that princess and now her, she couldn’t believe she was living in the same town because she had been there pretty much all her life and never bumped against so much celebs in all those year and all of sudded they were everywhere. She noticed she was going to look even weird if she didn’t say anything. "Yes, it’s been long since I come too." She said, back to her memories and playing it cool.
After all Jessica had been taught everyone was the same and deserved the same treat so she was going to make Martha proud on this one. "Used to come when I was a child, I loved the Jellies, they had always been my favorites." She couldn’t believe how easily she had forgot about her favorite animal but it wasn’t as if Jessica had time to think apart from rehearsals, practice, school… Maybe it was time to get a little bit of her carefree self now that she had got the job of he dreams, or maybe she wouldn’t have time because she need to work even harder to get something more. "They kind of cute and funny, moving that way." She remembered she used to dream she was swimming with them, she was a mermaid and they were her friends… how innocent she had been back then! "Used to think I would love to have one on my hand until they told me they will probably make my palm sting with venom."
She had spent a whole week crying because she wouldn’t be able to take the jelly for a walk on her hand and because she wouldn’t be able to touch them while swimming, then she thought being a mermaid could have some kind of protection against the venom and she was back to being happy. It was easy to solve problems back then because her main problem had been not being able to swing with jellies. "I’m Jessica by the way" She offered her hand to the girl. Jessica was like that, trust her on meeting someone and talking to them for hours, she won’t probably tell you her life or secrets, she wasn’t like that, but she would probably give you enough things to chat and be a very good friend, the fact she didn’t told her problems didn’t mean she wasn’t a good listener to the rest of people problems and she usually found herself helping them. Jessica wondered what she was doing there, she should be pretty busy, Jessica was and she wasn’t a Broadway star, but then again stars had lives too so she should be enjoying a break.

and in the spring, i shed my skin Lucinda, as a teenage girl who had been practically raised to fame, had never had to try hard for friends. She was naturally a social butterfly; her mother had taught her the graces and elegance of conversation from a young age, because there had been times when Lucinda would need to accompany her to a meeting or something. Lifen, her mother, was a well-known fashion designer; and while her father was off in his room, writing his poetry and stories and the likes, there had been plenty of times when Lucinda and her two younger brothers had been forced to come with their mother to some high-end corporate meeting.
So, even though she hadn't realized that a certain Miss Jessica Knightley had been next to her, she remained unperturbed at the voice that sounded. She was a socialite! It was in her destiny, or something of the sorts, to meet and converse with people. To be honest, Lucinda couldn't imagine her life without friends or family; there was no life, as far as she was concerned, if you didn't have anyone to share it with. Despite her slightly snide ways, Lucinda had very high morals; she valued things that most people would have thought her to dub as unimportant. But no, she didn't meet those expectations, and in most cases, this was a good thing.
A smile alighted upon Lucinda's mouth. "I think the last time I came here was with my father and my younger brothers -- when I was five!" She grinned brightly and turned her eyes back to the jelly fish. Their movements were liquid and smooth; there was no flaw in the way they drifted and slithered through the carefully monitored water, and she admired it for a few moments before turning and shaking the girl's hand. "I'm Lucinda," she replied companionably, "but you can call me Luce or Lucy. I don't mind either way." She sat down on the bench, setting her bag by her feet and rummaging through it when her phone buzzed noisily.
New Text Message From: Dietrich von Drechsler lucinda, where are you? you disappeared and we have to be at the meeting in five minutes!
Lucinda primly exited out of the text message from her agent, dropping her phone back into her bag only after turning it off. Instead, she looked at Jessica, offering another friendly smile. "So what are you doing at the aquarium, Jessica? Just taking some time off?"

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - SO WHY DON'T YOU LAY RIGHT HERE LET ME JUST EASE YOUR MIND I'M GIVING YOU ALL MY TIME ! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -It had been a good idea to chill around the aquarium, she would probably get back home to get back to practice and study but from time to time she needed a reminder that she was still young. She looked as kids ran with their parents to watch their favorite animals with the same spark in their eyes she used to have when she was like them, she wished she could just go and tell them to get the most of those moments because it’s going to be all that reminds when you grow up. Innocence set aside, she couldn’t say she regretted growing up; it was true she had been too much absorbed on her work to have a life but she didn’t feel as if she had missed something important, something she couldn’t back. Jessica shook Lucinda’s hand, still thinking how surreal everything was and how in only a week she had met three important persons, she just couldn’t stop wondering if Lucinda knew pretty much all the people around them knew her name. "I can’t remember when it was the last time, I know it was when I started to take more seriously the dance and singing."
Coming to think of it, Jessica had never been a child in the first place. With the whole adoption thing and everything going on she had been forced to grow up and when she had find something she liked she had worked hard to not get her parents all disappointed at her for not reaching the expectative. Martha had never put a line on her, something she had to reach, or James, she didn’t have any pressure coming from them, all the pressure came from her and how she wanted to demonstrate that being an adoptive child didn’t mean she would end on drugs, alcohol or getting into crime things. "I was doing some Christmas shopping and ended up here." Hadn’t that been some kind of a sign for her to get some happiness back? If it was she had to thank whoever decided to give her a break because she hadn’t realized how much she needed it. "I thought it would be good to remember old times, I used to come here a lot to watch them, wanted one as a pet."
If she was a rich as Lucinda she would probably have gotten one and the house ready for her but she couldn’t so she came her and treat them like their pets, the guys working on the aquarium already knew her and sometimes they allowed her to feed them. "I loved to think I was a mermaid and that I was swimming with them, dancing and singing." Now she realized how stupid and childish her dreams had been but she was at the age where the profession you picked to be when you grew up was princess, singer star or something like that, well at least that one she could say she realized. "And you? What’s your excuse for being here? " now watching Lucinda with her mobile remembered her she will need to call Martha if she wanted to spend there the rest of the afternoon watching the rest of the fishes and penguins and thing and maybe if she was lucky enough she could get one of her friends to allow her to visit her beloved Jellies, she had even gave them a name but now she couldn’t remember them, everything had faded away.

and in the spring, i shed my skin Aside from avoiding Dietrich, Lucinda was on a quest. A quest to find inspiration for the musical production she was writing. She had been working on it for a while now, ever since she'd discovered a band; and she wanted to make a musical with all of their songs in it. She just had to think of what to do! And, of course, she'd need to start casting in advance - she wanted things to be absolutely perfect; the singing, the acting, the choreography. Nothing was allowed to be even a little bit wrong. She was so pleased when the idea came to her that she knew she was going to follow through with it.
She wasn't quite sure what it was about yet. She knew that there was going to be some ulterior meaning; it wasn't going to be like those other productions, full of just glamor and slinky dresses and alcohol. No, it was going to have meaning, something that Lucinda thought Broadway productions were starting to lose. Her most favorite she had played in had been Wicked, even though she'd only been fifteen and one of the chorus members. The storyline was what had gotten her. And that meant something; if Lucinda Sang could be impressed, anyone could.
Even though Luce had high standards, she didn't think that it was unrealistic of her. She hated finding flaws in herself, especially considering her mother considered her to be perfect as well and she couldn't bear the thought of letting her mother down; but that wasn't a flaw, was it? Trying to be as perfect as you could on stage and in school? She didn't think so.
She turned to look at Jessica, pleasant surprise on her features. "You dance and sing?" she asked, and almost added 'Me too!' when she realized that this girl must have already known that she did. It was kind of disappointing; there was nothing she could surprise people with anymore. Except for the fact that she wanted to produce her own Broadway production. But that was such a special surprise that she wanted only to keep it for her special friends. "That's wonderful," she amended, tucking a caramel curl behind her ear. "Are you on Broadway, then?"
She thought that, if the answer was yes, she might have found a friend that she could keep outside of her work; and if no, then... Well, she'd probably look like a bitch.
"I loved to think I was a mermaid and that I was swimming with them, dancing and singing."
Lucinda gave a laugh; but it wasn't mean or mocking, only purely amused. "Really?" she asked, grinning. "I used to always think that about Dolphins. At least, that I could talk to them. I used to swear to my mother that they were talking right back." Ah, nostalgia. She sure did miss the good old days - but she loved what she did now, and she didn't think she would have traded it for anything in the world. Even the ability to talk to dolphins. "Me?" Luce asked, sighing softly. "Well, I'm avoiding my agent and an inevitably boring meeting. And I was debating working on a project, maybe spending the day out."

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - SO WHY DON'T YOU LAY RIGHT HERE LET ME JUST EASE YOUR MIND I'M GIVING YOU ALL MY TIME ! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Jessica had never tried to be perfect, just herself, and though she had worked very hard to get what she wanted she knew there were things out of her grasp. The thought didn’t bothered her because she was happy with what she had except for that little detail of wanting to look for her biological parents and ask them why, it was as if her existence had no meaning because they didn’t want her. There was no way she could go back to England without making her parents suspect and since she didn’t want to hurt them she just had the nearby resources to search. She didn’t know how to answer when Lucinda asked her if she was on Broadway, she wished she was, the fact that she danced and sang didn’t mean she was well known. "No I’m not. I’m actually working at Ricky’s, the cabaret place here in New York, is quite popular. "
Ricky’s was the most popular cabaret place on town and all the VIPS spent some quality time there, that was the main reason Jessica had wanted to work there so badly. First because their resources when it came to the spectacle were way better than the places she had been working and second because it opened doors. With the Elite girl Natasha dancing and singing there the place was always packed of people looking for new talents, she was known to be very exigent with her partners and that was the reason none lasted too much there. "Well, of course I bug Martha to get me one, I used them as a pet here, because I couldn’t have one at home and spent hours watching them." Good old times, how much she missed them. "They were my inspiration to dance, I own them something." There were reasons Jessica wanted to be a child, because everything was easier but she remembered she knew pretty well what she wanted to do with her life, with or without jelly she knew she would end dancing and singing cabarets. She did ballet, she did all kind of dances and styles because though she knew she wanted to be a cabaret girl she also knew that, as long as it was dancing and singing, she would do everything.
"That really sounds boring." She answered when Lucinda told her she was hiding from her manager. She was finding it hard to get one to work with her and help her reach the top but with barely money and nothing on her side no one wanted to work with her. "I would probably end up working today, I can’t hide from work and it’s not as if I want to, I just started and I’m loving it." It was tired and hard but she wouldn’t trade it for anything, she had worked to handle all that pressure on her and she wasn’t going to give up now. Her boss was good, he treated her as if she was made of gold and he had probably noticed she was going to stick for a while because they were reforming her dressing room. Jessica didn’t care if Natasha wanted her there or not because even if she didn’t like to have a tense work ambient she wasn’t there to make friends. If she did then it was fine but if she didn’t, all she cared about was the dance. "That sounds like a good plan, I wish you luck with that project." Jessica would love to say that, to be allowed to spend the day out, without nothing to do, but she never got breaks, she worked 365 days, 24 hours and it was worth it, but sometimes she wondered if she needed to stop to get a life along the way.
She had never thought about it but one day she will get older and she won’t be able to dance anymore, her voice will lost her vitality and she won’t be able to sing anymore too. The she would find herself alone with no one around her because she never had a life, sure she got friends but they weren’t close enough and sure she got people she cared but they weren’t going to live forever. Then she persuaded herself, she was still young , long road ahead of her, she will have time to make friends and think of the end of her career, she hadn’t even started yet! Jessica shook her head trying to push away those thoughts from her head and watched as the jellies swam slowly, she wished she could be one of them, all day swimming without a thing to worry about, just doing what you want all day and had that relaxed life. She could have it if she wanted to but the road she had chosen to take wasn’t stopping anytime soon.

and in the spring, i shed my skin Lucinda's eyes were alight now with genuine interest. Not one Broadway? Well, here was the chance of a lifetime! Lucinda knew that, as it were, most broadway stars took on protege's at one time or another; and she felt that she wasn't truly a star if she didn't have an apprentice of sorts. Of course, there would be hours of worked involved, and maybe Jessica wasn't willing to put that in; maybe she didn't even want to be on Broadway. But this had sprung the idea in Luci's mind anyway; what kind of star would she be if she didn't take on an apprentice? A lame one, that's what!
Yes, she could see it now; the headlines in the newspaper would read, "LUCINDA SANG: BROADWAY STAR TAKES ON DAZZLING NEW APPRENTICE". Because obviously, her apprentice was not allowed to be anything less that wonderful and dazzling; she needed to have an apprentice that, of course, needed work, but who had the raw talent to get there in the first place! A sweet face, one that made people love her, and talent to match. Yes, that was exactly what she needed. The perfect apprentice for the perfect star. Things were going to go swimmingly, she was sure!
"Ricky's, you say?" she asked, curiously. "I've never been there, but some of my friends have. They say it's great." She looked positively thoughtful at this point; what if Jessica did want to be on Broadway, to become a star? It was worth a shot! Sure it was! And Lucinda, being the positively persuasive social butterfly she was, would convince Jessica that she needed Lucinda to reach stardom -- because honestly, how would she get there otherwise? "So Jessica, you've never been on Broadway. Would you like to be on Broadway?" Lucinda asked, casually, as if she were discussing afternoon tea with a long time friend.
Of course, she'd have to make sure Jessica actually had the talent. There was no way Lucinda was going to do all of that publicity work only to be made out like a fool. But this Jessica girl, she seemed sweet enough; she had the looks, the attitude, and that was all she needed. Anyone could be taught the talents of Broadway. As long as she had a sweet voice, they could polish off everything else that needed to be polished.
The teen gave a snort. "Oh, trust me. It is. A corporate office full of stuffed-shirts discussing prices - not something I wake up thinking, 'This is what I want to do with my day!'" She grinned cheekily. "But that's alright. Thanks for the well-wishing, anyway."

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - SO WHY DON'T YOU LAY RIGHT HERE LET ME JUST EASE YOUR MIND I'M GIVING YOU ALL MY TIME ! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -So she was sitting watching jellies with Broadway star Lucinda Sang… but she had lived weirdest moments in her life, something she never knew she would be saying. "Yes, Ricky’s is the best cabaret place on town, or that’s what they say." She had worked so hard to get in there she knew the next step was the big theatres or the cinema, but it was going to be big, it was going to be worth of all the pain in her body and the long hours working and those moments she had lost in life to reach the spotlight. Some people will say she had an unstoppable seek of fame but it wasn’t that, she wanted her job, her tears, all of that, to be worth it and she wanted to give her parents something in return for all their sacrifices. "Well, sure. That’s why I’ve been working so hard, because I want to reach the big thing." It was strange to explain her reasons to someone who was already there and sure had the same dreams she had now. But well, she was elite, not an Upper Class, Lucinda had the money and the fame from the start, she just had to choose to be one and she will get it, it wasn’t so easy for Jessica.
"I want all of things I worked so hard to get somewhere and to show my parents all the things they had done for me where really worth it and not a waste of time." It didn’t mattered how hard it hurt after hours of practice or how many tears she was crying right at the moment, no, she would go on and on and on forever until she was sure the movement was perfect. If it was a song she will sing it time and time again until her voice was gone but the lyric and the tone was the perfect and that every single day. "My parents had took me to the best schools, the best singing class, everything, just to make me happy, because they knew that was what I wanted, and I want them to be proud of me… you see, Martha will always be proud but I can’t fail them this way." Her parents were everything for her but… she secretly hoped her real ones will see her and will come and tell her why they couldn’t keep her…
"Well sure? Who will like that?" She laughed when Lucinda told her about the meeting and how boring they were, she imagined they would be like those school reunions they were forced to go just to be ignored but being told they were the important thing and that everything was for they well being. If someone ever asked her what was her opinion she will have the answer ready, if they cared so much why didn’t let them say what they thought? Or decided what they want? But of course, they hadn’t words there, they just were on the room to decorate and so they thought they will making them believe they were worth it. "After all is about your work, I mean, that’s the thing, if you have to endure some hours of boring meeting to get what you want… that’s a small price to pay." It really was compared with the rest of the prices they had to pay, mostly on self sacrifice and hours of not having any outside life, and of course, there was the extract diet so they won’t lose shape and all that. As it happened, Jessica had seen many people giving up because they couldn’t handle the pressure and the hours of work without any benefit any time soon. She knew it was all matter of patient and persistence, auditions won’t come from the sky and work won’t come from the sky either, you have to go, make them and fail, and sometimes win, all of that helped you to learn.
No, Jessica wasn’t giving up anytime soon and definitely not now that she had reached one of her must-do things in life. Natasha could be a right bitch to her and try to get her down but that wasn’t going to happen, Ricky’s was now her home and no one ever threw her out of her home. "Projects are fun, it’s the best part of it all." In school they had free projects to be presented at the end of the year, it was the best part for her because she could allow her creativity out and sometimes she even had new numbers for her next shifts at work. "We have them at school, some people find them difficult because teachers don’t give us clues or steps to do, they just give us do what we want but some people don’t have any creativity." She just had to switch the music on and all the possible dance moves came to her head, she had fun doing movements that seemed impossible and experimented with new things.

and in the spring, i shed my skin Of course, it wasn't imperative that Lucinda find an apprentice; it would have to all be of her own volition, naturally, but it wasn't necessarily required of her. She believed firmly in the belief that one made one's own destiny; there was no such thing as love at first sight, or fate, just lust at first sight or coincidence. Cynical? Perhaps a little, but it was probably one of the deepest things going on inside the vain little beauty's head at the time. Not to say she wasn't intelligent -- Lucinda was very intelligent indeed (straight A's as a requirement, you see) but sometimes she got a little airy with the fame and the fortune. Not everyone could be oblivious, you know.
The point was that she was not born to being a star on Broadway - and if she'd known that Jessica didn't think she had to work toward it, she would have been insulted. There had been countless hours of singing lessons, dance lessons, and other training that had tired the fragile girl's body; not to mention days of auditions that ultimately ended in rejection, or criticism where it was unneeded. No, there was no doubt that Lucinda deserved whatever fame and leniency she got; she was not give 'special treatment' when it really came down to it - she was expected to have a 4.0 grade point average, just as she would have been if she hadn't become a Broadway star, and she had to keep up with her family, her lessons, her traveling, and her chores at home all at the same time.
So no - she did have to work for it, and just as hard as Jessica was working now; just in a different way. There had been no choosing. She had chosen to commit herself to reaching Broadway, and it had taken away the better years of her life. She was just peaking right now, was all.
"Well, if you're serious about it," Lucinda began, and then paused. "And I mean really serious about it, I'd be able to help you at least get started. Ricky's is great, but there's a slim chance someone from Broadway is going to pick you up out of a cabaret place." She said this sympathetically, but not overly so; just with patience. "The point is that I'd help you, if I knew you really had the skill and the determination to make it. I know you probably think I got it easy, just like everyone does - that even if I'd been terrible I could have been a Broadway star, but it's not true. It takes work." Here she gave a polite, friendly smile. "But it's worth it. Definitely worth it."
Grinning lightly, she brought her bag up to sit beside her. "Well, I was thinking of trying to write my own musical," she explained. "I just started writing out the music yesterday - but I don't think I want to start it yet. I still need to get a portfolio set up!" She looked thoughtful, shuffling in her bag for a pencil. Maybe she'd get her portfolio set up today, instead - and work on the musical later.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - SO WHY DON'T YOU LAY RIGHT HERE LET ME JUST EASE YOUR MIND I'M GIVING YOU ALL MY TIME ! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -She couldn’t believe what she was hearing, all of sudden her lucky stars were smiling at her and Lucinda Sang was offering her a job at Broadway! It seemed all her years of work, all that time she had committed to dance and sing and everything she had missed along the way was finally going to get paid. She knew everyone had to work hard to reach the top, including Lucinda, but when you are rich and famous you have contacts, she didn’t have anything, all she had got had been after millions of ‘no’ and never losing her hope. So yeah, Lucida had worked as hard as everyone who got the talent to keep in the industry but no doubt she had it easier than middle or lower class girls who didn’t have the money to go to the best schools and had to fight to get to a normal average singing or dancing school."I wouldn’t been working at Ricky’s if I don’t get it seriously." Jessica had always been the best of her promotions; she had worked harder than everyone, when all the girls went home she had stayed until the school closed practicing and practicing until her body was exhausted.
She marked her limits when she started to cry, then she knew she was doing the right thing and worked to the limit of her body. No, Jessica wasn’t one of those girls who though work will fall from the sky without any work on her side. "I worked harder than everyone else, that’s why I got my job at Ricky’s." When Lucinda mentioned no one will get a job on Broadway coming from a cabaret place she wrinkle her nose. Well, there were plenty of VIP people at there, people who looked for talent and wanted to get it at the best place. Cabaret girls at Ricky’s were famous, Natasha had made the place famous, an Elite working on Ricky’s had been the rising start of the place to the Top places to go in NYC. Of course she knew that staying at Ricky’s without going to more auditions was a waste of time, but saying you come from Ricky’s got you the attention of them and the possibility to get the job. "It makes things easier, to work in such a famous place. The audition to get in is one of the hardest I’ve ever been and they are very picky with the girls, they only want the best." She had dreamt of being a director once her career as singer and dance was over, you have to be young and flexible and no one was on shape forever, there is an age you just can’t do the same things and then you have to look for something else.
Jessica smiled when Lucinda told her she was planning on making her own musical. It took nerve and a lot of work to get one straight and worth it for the public nowadays, nothing was new, nothing was original, everything was already invented, and to find something that had never been done you just have to get a very active imagination. Jessica had proved herself she could get full choreographies out of her mind and put them on practice, but finding the music to go along with them, invent the music and lyrics, well that was another thing completely different and just wasn’t her thing. "I wish you luck with that, I find it very difficult to create music, I can’t imagine doing a full musical." Maybe she could make herself to be a choreographer instead of directing and creating musicals, she could teach Ballet, modern dance, everything, because she had done everything in her way to the top. Now everything would be worth it, all those years, if Lucinda helped her and with all the celebs she was meeting those days, then she will make her parents proud of her.

and in the spring, i shed my skin It was true; Lucinda's status as an Elite did help her along, a little. But people often had delusions that being at the top of the food chain automatically gave you the spotlight. It wasn't so long ago that Lucinda had been the chorus member, or the stage crew; she'd had to work, and there was no doubt about it. The tears shed over failed auditions and criticizing managers proved it to be solid and true. She didn't want Jessica going into this with any premonitions - that having a 'mentor' that was mildly famous was going to get her exactly what she wanted right from the start.
"If you want it, and I mean really want it," she started, more cautiously this time, "we can see about it. You should come with me to meet my manager today - convince him to let me take you on as a protege." She seemed pleased by this idea; after all, it wasn't entirely unpleasant. Think of the news! She'd get publicity, and all for a good cause - helping a big city girl reach her dreams after working so hard. It was all going to come together beautifully, she could see it now. And helping Jessica would give her time to work on her musical, to let the music flow to the pages and give her time to breathe. Maybe take a break from the show biz for a while to train her new apprentice.
Well, if Jessica was as good as she said, anyway.
Oh, Lucinda had no doubt the girl had talent; if she worked at Ricky's, she had to have some, right? But she had found that people exaggerated their skills while in front of her, and she wanted to make sure she was getting the real deal before she made any hasty moves. "Of course, we'll have to take you to an audition of sorts," she mused absently, rolling over the ideas in her mind. "And you'll have to be open-minded. Even if you get chorus or lead, either way, you'll be on Broadway, right?" A smile, friendly and encouraging, but in some way firm, graced the Asian teen's lips. She tucked a caramel curl behind her ear and her sooty lashes flickered for a moment as she turned her gaze back to the jelly fish. "And we'll have to take it slow. One step at a time."
Yes, slow was best. Rushing into things could get people delusional, and then they'd lose touch with who they were. Lucinda's policy was that she always did what her manager wanted her to - to an extent. She would always, always be herself.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - SO WHY DON'T YOU LAY RIGHT HERE LET ME JUST EASE YOUR MIND I'M GIVING YOU ALL MY TIME ! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Jessica didn’t doubt for a moment, if someone like Lucinda was going to give her a chance she was going to take no matter how hard she will have to work. Broadway had been her dream since she could rememeber, why would she waste such a chance like that? She was going to show Lucinda that she was worth the trouble, that she was the best and even if she wasn’t she worked harder than anyone else, she was going to show the world how good she was and how many things she had to tell. She was so excited she was almost jumping off her site, she couldn’t stay still. "Yes I so want it." She had been in front of managers other times, she had that on her side which meant she wasn’t going to get nervous but now she will have to go and practice until it was time to go, she wasn’t going to bed until her act was perfect, if tomorrow she will have to convince a manager then she better be ready for it. "I’ll be there, I promise I will be worth it, you won’t regret this." She couldn’t thank Lucinda enough, everything she could say wasn’t enough to tell her how thankful she was for giving her the chance, maybe it wasn’t going to work, who knows? But after all she was giving her the chance.
"I can do that, chorus, whatever you got me, second row… I did all that, not everyone can start from the first light." Of course all Lucinda was saying made sense, and Jessica knew she will have to work her spotlight like she had done dozens of times, but even on a second row she was on Broadway and that was enough for her. Other people will raise against the fact of starting from the low, but Jessica could care less, working on Ricky’s as first star didn’t make her anything special, she understood she needed to show her talent and make it better to get on a better position and for her it was better, if you start from the top people had expectations you have to meet without any time to get ready, but if you were on the second row no one expected for you to be the best, they gave you time to get better. " Slow is good, slow is perfect." Having a teacher as Lucinda was going to give her the publicity she needed and though that added some pressure to her work she didn’t care either, she knew she was going to learn a lot thanks to her and that was enough for her. "Thank you, you don’t even know me and you are giving me the chance of my life, I’m very grateful, even if things don’t end well, I thank you for giving me the chance at least."
She was going to call her mother as soon as she was out of there and then she was out to practice until she was exhausted but happy with her work. Jessica wasn’t a perfectionist, but she liked to do things right, she was of the opinion that if she was going to do something she better do it perfectly, she never left things in the middle and then pick them up when she wanted. "It’s difficult, I imagine, to be in the spotlight, someone expecting something from you, I guess I’ll have to get used to it on a future." Jessica wasn’t popular, not in the Star kind of sense, she was only a singer and sometimes she got the attention of someone but noting too important and nothing as bigger as this. She couldn’t believe that was happening to her, Martha would be so proud, finally something good was happening to them all, she couldn’t wait to tell her mother someone was finally helping her, she will have to find a way of thanking her properly for all the things she wanted to do for her.
